Kentucky Youth Storytelling Showcase:
Sponsoring Adult/Organization Information

Thank you for your interest in the Kentucky Division of the National Youth Storytelling Showcase.

  • This competition is a statewide effort and the delegated representative in affiliation with the National Youth Storytelling Showcase to develop, encourage, and highlight the talent of your young storytellers.

  • Schools/organizations/families are encouraged to create or participate in local storytelling events, guilds, or local organization showcases in order to discover talented young storytellers. For more information and suggestions for local storytelling activities, write: KYSS, Kentucky Storytelling Association, P.O. Box 4148, Frankfort, Kentucky 40604-4148.   • We have four semi-final competition venues statewide
    • Madisonville
    • Erlanger
    • Prestonsburg
    • Somerset
    • And a mail-in entry method for those who cannot make our competition venues for whatever reason

  • Every young person in Kentucky is eligible to compete in a solo storytelling category and/or as part of a tandem storytelling team.
    • Elementary Age
    • Middle School Age
    • High School Age (17 or younger on February 9, 2010)
    • Tandem Teams (teams consist of 2 – 4 tellers, any qualifying age)

  • In addition to schools
    • Any organization/family may select and submit a young storyteller in each category
    • Organizations in Kentucky include, but are not limited to:
      • Public Libraries
      • Boy Scouts
      • Girl Scouts
      • Churches
      • 4—H Clubs
      • Local Storytelling Guilds
