Kentucky Youth Storytelling Showcase:
Rules & Suggestions
Rules
- Stories must be 8 – 10 minutes in length.
- Stories must be told, not read.
- Kentucky Youth Storytelling participants must be age 6 - 18 years old on February 3, 2011.
- Entries must be submitted on DVD/VHS compatible with typical home equipment. Each entry should contain only one 8 – 10 minute story. Do not use multi-camera shots, special effects, or graphics. Do use a full cover shot and audio reinforcement (like a microphone on a pole stand).
A teller entering both solo and tandem competition categories must submit a separate DVD/VHS for
each category.
- An Entry & Permissions Form must accompany each DVD/VHS.
A teller entering both solo and tandem competition categories must submit a separate Entry & Permission Form with each DVD/VHS submitted.
Tandem Teams must submit an Entry & Permission Form for each teller on the team.

Duos submit one DVD/VHS and two Entry & Permission Forms, one for each teller.
- Trios submit one DVD/VHS and three Entry & Permission Forms, one for each teller.

Entries must be received by midnight August 12, 2010.

- All participating schools/organizations/families must be located within Kentucky.
- At least one parent, guardian, or other responsible adult chaperone must accompany each young storyteller at all times during the state finals at The Kentucky State Fair. No Exceptions.
Suggestions
- Schools/organizations/families are encouraged to create or participate in local storytelling events, guilds, or local organization showcases in order to discover talented young storytellers. - Plan classroom or social activities that involve storytelling by and with young people to find talent and cultivate talent.
- Seek out storytellers for advice, coaching, and help in applying storytelling elements in Kentucky’s Program of Studies. Click here to visit KSA’s
