Kentucky Youth Storytelling Showcase:
Rules & Suggestions
Rules
- Stories must be 5 – 10 minutes in length.
- Stories must be told, not read.
- Kentucky Youth Storytelling participants must be age 6 - 17 years old on February 9, 2010.
- Any school/organization/family wishing to send in a DVD/Video Semi-Final Entry must submit that entry prior to midnight September 30, 2009.
- A young storyteller can only participate in one semi-final venue.
- All participating schools/organizations/families must be located within Kentucky.
- Any school/organization/family wishing to have young people participate in a regional semi-final venue must electronically submit or postmark a completed entry form by midnight of the venue entry deadline. Those deadlines are: Erlanger, September 7; Prestonsburg and Somerset, September 14; and Madisonville, September 21, 2009.
- At the State Championship Level, all entrants will be required to seek written permission of the story’s author, whether the story is in print or from a non-print source. Prior to consideration, written proof of permission from the story’s author or publisher is required before a young storyteller will be considered for a performance at the National Youth Storytelling Showcase. No permission is needed for stories created by the storyteller or stories retold from public domain sources.
- At least one parent, guardian, or other responsible adult chaperone must accompany each young storyteller at all times during the semi-final and state championship competitions. No Exceptions.
Suggestions
- Schools/organizations/families are encouraged to create or participate in local storytelling events, guilds, or local organization showcases in order to discover talented young storytellers. - Plan classroom or social activities that involve storytelling by and with young people to find talent and cultivate talent.
